Regular Mattress Care and Maintenance.

Turn and rotate your mattress every six months to keep the the ware and pressure on the springs or foam even along the mattress. If your mattress has a built in top pad you will only be able to rotate your mattress 180 degrees, however if your mattress doesn’t have this top pad you can flip it and turn it. We recommend marking the corners of the mattress with spring, summer autumn and winter. Turning and flipping the mattress with each season to put the correct mark at the top right or left (depending how you marked the mattress) will ensure that the mattress is turned and flipped evenly.

Vacuum Your Mattress

Remove dust and dust mites from the mattress when you rotate and flip your mattress by vacuuming the it. Using the vacuum cleaner attachments will help you to get into all the seams and any buttoning of the mattress and remove trapped dust and dust mites. Be careful not to scrub the mattress with the attachment or damage the fabric.

Freshen Your Mattress

You can freshen a mattress with a light sprinkling of about a quarter of a cup of baking soda mixed with a few drops of essential oil such as lavender or lemon.  Sprinkle the mix over the surface of the mattress and let it rest for half an hour before vacuuming it all away. This should help with any stale odours and give your mattress a fresh clean smell.

Stain Removal

If any liquids do get spilt onto the mattress it is important to blot (not rub) the liquid with a clean dry towel to remove as much of the liquid as possible. Press the towel firmly into the mattress to extract the liquid.

If the liquid has penetrated into the foam of the mattress it is important to allow it to dry thoroughly before replacing any protectors and bedding. Upholstery stain removal products can be used to remove and stains but ensure the mattress is completely dry before use.

Use a breathable, waterproof mattress protector.

To minimise stains on the mattress from sweat and other liquids use a breathable, waterproof mattress protector. These protectors allow the moisture to leave a mattress but not enter it. A protector also inhibits dust and dust mites on and in your mattress. Adding a protector will keep your mattress cleaner longer and make it much easier to maintain.

Regular inspection and cleaning of your mattresses will mean that they don’t need replacing as often.
